Veil of Dread

Noted Nest

By Aishna Shobhawat

Strolling through the darkened streets, alone,

A racing heart, chilled to the bone.

Will I ever make it home again,

Or is this night where fears begin?

The phone feels heavy in my hand,

A lifeline I can’t understand.

I whisper prayers into the air,

Hoping someone’s listening there.

Her warnings echo in my mind,

How could I leave those words behind?

The darkness waits, it never sleeps,

Feeding on the light it reaps.

My cries are swallowed by the night,

With no one near to see my plight.

"Stay back," I beg, "just let me go,"

I only want escape, to know.

Now I lay still, my strength all spent,

In silence where my spirit went.

Once full of life, now cold and bare,

A quiet too heavy for one soul to bear.
