The Taste of Smell

By Irani

“I never liked that smell”, he said,

You would think that if

One lived in it for as long as I did

One would get used to it;

But I never did.

No.

I grew to resent it more and more each day,

It became my guide, my mentor of sorts -

But even if it did push me to my goal

It haunted me,

Mocked me while dancing on my nostrils

The smell so pungent you could taste it.

So, in a way I am grateful,

But I will forever despise it.
