The Sky We Left Behind

Noted Nest

By Kausar Kaashifa

I poured my love for you-

In misty mornings,

In dark, cold nights,

Drowning you with all I had,

Only to realize, you don’t love rain.

So I stopped raining,

Pulled back my clouds,

And let the skies above us dry.

Everything around me turned to dust,

And drought claimed my throne.

Now, with everything long gone,

You come begging beneath my empty sky,

Telling me you cannot live without my love.

But even if I wanted to,

I couldn’t give you what’s no longer there.

Perhaps we’ll die together,

Lost beneath the sky that forgot how to weep.
