The Last Ride

By Ayush Jain

The words ended and we couldn’t find a syllabi

I wanted to say something but words had left me the way they did I

first saw you

You looked at me insincerely and turned your head away, looking

outside at the city that shined in bright yellow lights

I couldn’t fathom the silence you created

Were you holding it hoping that I will break it with a sweet nothing

Or was it some pain, of which I was no more worthy of sharing

Or were you done with the words and there was really nothing left to

say

Or was it just silence

Nothing less, nothing more

And you had left it up to me to decide

Its been months since I heard words those warmed my heart

The way they did when we weren’t apart

Was it you or was it me, the reason for the heart-wrenching last ride

We seemed to have moved on but I still can’t decide

And walk a long road

On a cold windy night

Before I drop you off

To the city with glimmering yellow lights

Let us live with facts we can’t seem to change

The choices we clearly made
