The Dwelling

By Rick Bhattacharyya

But maybe that is my sin,

To wait for someone

Who would never look back;

In times of peril

They keep going on and on,

While I stay back

To take care

Of what’s left of them.

To only have eyes

For the good of a person,

‘Cuz I want to cure the bad

Or avert my eyes from it.

The rearview mirror of a car

Is for glancing

And not for looking;

Yet I can’t help but keep looking,

For I long for the time long gone by,

Or wish for it to come again…
