The Cave up Mighty Mountain

Noted Nest

By Jaesryna Sachdeva

on passing through the cosmic mountains,

I saw a hollow cave.

not a speck of fire, a torch or a lantern.

darkness filled it like air.

the mountain was ethereal.

so mighty, so tall.

it stood there, in its grandeur.

and I watched it, wondering about its great fall.

I did what I shouldn’t have done.

I went up the mountain, to it’s dark cave

my eyes harnessed a view so grave

just because I had deemed the idea great fun.

there lay a lion,

asleep but not soundly.

the cave covered with a smoky fog,

I found it sad but ferociously

hoping to get a better look, I cleared the fog, cleared the smoke.

that’s when I saw a little puppy

it almost felt like a joke.

a child living in a hollow cave

up in mighty mountain,

what a regretting founder I was,

what a tragic fate.

sorrow had made the puppy look fierce,

but it had made him lifeless.

it’s home looked beauteous,

but the cave, a tragic mess.

it would take years to end the suffering of mighty mountain,

when sand would fill in the emptiness.

when the cave would cease to exist,

a glacier would melt to form a water fountain,

ending the cave, and the lion’s sorrowful mist.

just know that a mountain might be sitting next to you,

as you read this

be wary of its cave,

be wary of the puppy too

don’t go up that hill.
