The Anchor That Cut off Itself

By Reece Lopes

I am the anchor that is holding my ship that is to set sail

I now realise, I was dropped only because my brakes failed

I thought I was dropped to hold my ship firm

I thought my ship wanted to stay put,

But seems I am holding my ship back now and I don’t like what I am doing

I need to break loose; I need to switch off my fuse.

And now that I know, I need to let go

Because my ship is destined to travel to and fro.

To and fro from all the places of the world

To experience adventure, to explore

And I cannot tag along, I am stuck in the mud, I’ll only make her slow

Enough reason I have for me to let go.

And my last message to my pretty Lady is

‘You be good, you be great

Don’t get into much trouble, don’t stay in storms for too late,

For I am not there to hold your ground

And I’ll go now, you be on your way

And know this – I always will be proud’
