Sorry, The Number You’re Calling Does Not Exist.

Noted Nest

By Aarayna Sambyal

i pick up the phone

start scrolling through the contacts,

one by one come on names,

names that i know but then really don’t.

tears streaming down my face

no words left to say

then there it was,

a name i love,

a name i can rely on,

a name i trust,

but stupid, what makes you think he’ll pick up?

but there’s no harm in trying

maybe he’ll be on the other side,

cheering for me like they show in the movies.

maybe he’ll be on the other side,

telling me to stop crying and he’ll bring a little piece of the moon for me.

but stupid, this isn’t your favourite television series.

but i dial the number anyways

and hear the other line say

“sorry, the number you’re calling does not exist.”
