Shadowed in The Daylight

Noted Nest

By Sabeeha Banu

The cracks reappeared on the ceiling

A harsh sunbeam pierced the grill with a soft, eerie squealing.

Glazed eyes from yesterday’s grief

Cryptic loads tugging the heartstrings

Longing to melt like a thawing heart and blur

Does this alien, poignant bane have any cure?

In stillness, the clock’s tick felt like a thunder lure

A hint of alarm to commence the day and cloak illness

The hot steam smoothened the creases on the shirt

But couldn’t tame the surge of emotions or the hurt

Lathered and scented in cocoa and oud

It's tough to catch a whiff of a surly mood

Left the lone escapade with a deep sigh

To fade into the void until the cracks fade in vain
