Oh, Mother

Noted Nest

By Tamanna Gupta

Every time I try to heal myself

You rip off the bandage,

painfully

I scream in agony

And all you do is watch me

carefree

Oh, mother, please leave me alone

I don't want to be the puppet anymore,

Every time I try to forget it

You give me

another reason to remember

Now I am crying on my birthday

with my arms bleeding,

and the skin gets cut

instead of the cake

Oh, mother dearest

I see you smiling

Do you enjoy

what you are doing?

But then again, I see you

playing the victim

Can my tears be enough reason

Oh mother, please

I beg you to stop
