Nanna, is it easy to be a father?

Nanna, is it easy to be a father?

You work hard like the hands of a clock

That follows days and nights without a stop.

No work can strain you and make you give up,

Rather, you train yourself for the family to grow up.

I imagine that your world revolves around the family,

Just like the earth revolves around the sun.

Nanna, is it really easy to be a father?

“No, my child, but I’m happy;

Because I love to carry this responsibility.”

Nanna, is it worthy to be a father?

I read about a warrior on a battleground,

But I heard no mention of the family’s warrior, that’s you, my father.

I read poetry on mother’s love

That shows a mother as a goddess;

But I didn’t hear a word on father’s love

Which is shown only in action, but not in a word.

Why do you always stay behind in every scene?

“Listen, my son, that’s how I was made.

Listen, my son, that’s what makes me a father.”

Nanna, is it really worthy to be a father?

“Yes, my child. It is worthy to be a father.

Listen, my son, though you hurt me,

I will not leave you because you are my love.

Listen, my child, I may not be in poetry,

I may not be mentioned in history.

But behind every family you will find

A father like a melted wax candle.

I may melt to sustain light,

Because I am alive to give you support.

I may fight to give what you want.

Because I am alive to put everything at stake.

Listen, my child, soon you will become a father,

And remember, for your family, you are an invisible warrior,

You will become a torch bearer.

In the end, my child, it is a precious gift

To be a father.”
