“Work is worship”. This quote emphasizes the importance of work in modern-day life. Traditionally, work used to be done with complete human intervention. With the progress in infrastructure and rapidly changing needs and wants of people, the dynamics of doing work have changed.

Today life is evolving at a fast pace, and the ways of doing work have changed drastically. With the invent of machines and the digital revolution, the time of doing the same work has been reduced which in turn has minimized the efforts of human beings. There are many new ways of doing business like taking a workspace on rent. There are many options available related to workspace such as co-working space, shared office space, or customized office spaces. This trend is very popular on a pan-India basis. 


Role of Technology in shaping Indian workplace 

Technology is transforming the workplace in India in several ways. Reducing human efforts thereby improving efficiency, and creating new opportunities in different fields, helps in shaping how the work will be done in the future. Some of the key ways technology is influencing the Indian workplace are:

1. Automation and Efficiency

Due to the automation of businesses and futuristic technologies, the degree of efficiency in doing the work has increased manifold. Despite all these benefits, it also poses certain challenges that are the topic of debate in recent times like fear of job loss which will lead to massive unemployment in labour abundant Indian economy.

2. Remote Work and Collaboration

With the advent of technology and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the craze of remote work and collaboration is seen in Genz’s and millennia. The usage of available tools and software on the internet has made work easy and it offers employees greater flexibility in maintaining work-life balance. Tools like Zoom, and Google Meet for video conferencing and cloud storage like Google Drive are in use extensively.

3. Skill Development and Learning

With the excessive use of technology, people nowadays are more inclined towards learning new skills. Various learning materials and courses available on online platforms like LinkedIn are useful tools to cater knowledge and overall development of individuals.

Location for doing business is an important criterion for the success and growth of existing businesses. Some of the key factors why office space selection is an important matter in the present-day scenario.

A few of them are Vocational Training Programs wherein to provide practical hands-on experience to the individual. b. Corporate Training Programs wherein companies partner with various educational institutions to provide specialized programs for their employees and various in-house training programs like seminars, workshops, and internship opportunities.


2. Growing importance of Soft Skills and innovation

There has been a rise in the importance of soft skills learning in recent times and many companies offer their employees free learning of these skills by partnering with various institutions. 


Trends and Predictions for Office Spaces in India 

The trend for office spaces in India is evolving rapidly. As companies seek more cost-effective methods and a better working environment, trends like co-working space, shared office space, or customized office spaces are becoming popular.


1. Co-working Space is a new normal. The popularity of co-working spaces is a new normal in recent times. These spaces offer a co-working facility wherein individuals from different companies come and work alongside each other. This is a cost-effective way for companies to provide suitable working facilities to their employees.

2. Growing Popularity of Shared Office Spaces- Shared office spaces allow the company to optimize its resources cost-effectively. This facility provides a more professional environment to work than a co-working space.

3. Customized Office Space- This facility not only provides the space to work but also gives the benefit of customization to the complete layout of the working space according to the company’s culture and interests.

Embracing the Future of Work in India- Due to digitalization, embracing the future of work is both challenging and an opportunity. With the increasing dependency on the internet, cybersecurity and data privacy have become a topic of concern for companies. Security breaches and data leaks can damage the reputation of companies and they may face legal consequences. Also with the increase in the trend of remote work and freelancing the growth of the Gig Economy is on the rise. With the growing popularity of office space and location, the availability of such a setup is challenging. Metropolitan cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi can offer such a facility but the affordability is expensive. On the other hand, non-metropolitan towns have minimal options for providing such a facility but the affordability is budget-friendly. So, therefore, companies must provide a suitable environment to their employees for their mental well-being, which will help the company grow and expand and build strong and long-term relations with the employees.
