Delusional Smiles

Last night was a delight,

For you were there by my side.

After quite a while of broken expectations,

It was a ray of hope so serendipitous.

You asked me how I've been,

And my heart skipped a beat.

I felt required, I felt significant;

Gushing over it every second.

Much to my dismay, it's soon breaking,

For it was just a dream.

Once in these numerous months,

I woke up glad yet miserable.

Once in countless years,

I needed a dream to be true so bad!
