Dear Me, (What I Would Say)

Noted Nest

By Dr Dwijisha Katkar

Wait! Please, step off the ledge

I know your mind is a cage, your thoughts it’s prisoners and you’ve grown rather fond of

it’s guards

Don’t blame yourself, depression and anxiety make very good company, especially

when you are isolated

You feel like you have no power, maybe you lost it the 10 th time someone bullied you, or

when that guy shattered your sweet heart , or

Maybe it was when ajoba passed away, your one constant in the family, that is the

opposite of whatever a close knit one is supposed to be

You were heart broken, you couldn’t attend his funeral and you didn’t cry either, the

tears never came, all used up for the wrong people

I know how lonely you feel, even when surrounded by people you love, there’s this

constant growing void and the people who do occupy that space, always end up leaving

Your heart has become a black hole, a place where people, dreams and ambitions

disappear, never to be found again, no matter how much you beg and plead

I know you plan things ahead of time, and I know that heights scare you, there is

always a back up plan, but stop clutching that knife, throw it away

You are a writer, you bleed better on paper anyway and it makes a difference, you might

save another life

I know the spirals you sink into, I’ve heard your screams of rage, of helplessness, time

and again, the spirals that continue into an abyss for so long, that they constitute your

very DNA

It seems better to just end things, finally get some peace, some quiet ..

BUT..

I also know how kind you are, how you have a knack of knowing just what to say, even

to the most forlorn people

You make people feel less lonely , because you’ve practiced the same speech on

yourself , a hundred times over

You are empathetic, you feel so much in both the good and the bad, it is your super

power, don’t forget that

You make people comfortable in their own skin, it’s a quality most people lack

You trust openly and give everything your all, and it’s okay if it doesn’t work out (at least

you tried)

Yes, you get heartbroken, more times than you can count, but when you love someone

to the brim, you end up changing their life forever

You have been bullied, abused, played around with, but it only made you a softer,

refined and more mature person, you don’t carry that hate in your heart

You forgive easily and you’d rather kill them with kindness

Maybe this all sounds too preachy like something out of a self help book

But my love,

Your glow is just a little dull right now, these phases will come and go,

And you, you are meant to light up the whole sky.

P.S: you have a way with words, go change the world!

- From, You (Thanking for not jumping off the ledge that day.)
