O Star, I had wished for
All the ecstasy and joy in the universe;
To be bereft of all misery and curse.
But then, I realized that there are many more
People who are in situations worse.
Dear Star, I asked you
To grant me all the friends one could possess,
To relieve me from trauma and distress.
However, I perceived that there too
Is another person in a bigger mess.
Glorious Star, I prayed
For all the glory and renown in the world;
For all infamy to be removed and hurled.
Then I understood I was better made
Off, because someone out there had hidden and curled.
Lovely Star, I longed
For all my dreams to turn true;
I thought that they were overdue.
By being selfish, I had wronged,
Instead of wishing for the miserable in queues.
Blessed Star, I wanted
To be free from anger and rage,
Like a macaw trapped in a jewelled cage.
Those wishes had me haunted
Even though I could manage.
Auspicious Star, I have desired
For every aspect of life to be perfect;
Everything ideal without a single defect
But, just like an ignited fire,
It could be suppressed with intellect.
O Star, I believe
That real happiness comes from within
From the end, and when it begins.
Then, anything can be achieved
And all battles you shall win.
