A Mystery In The Dream

Noted Nest

It was a fresh summer morning. Birds were chirping, dogs were barking, and if you heard carefully, priests were chanting in the temples. Me and my dad were sitting on the dining table and eating breakfast.

Suddenly we heard a loud scream from upstairs. We immediately got up from the table and rushed upstairs. The scream came from my parent’s bedroom. When we went to see the bedroom I saw my mom sitting on the bed in shock but also looked like she was horrified of something. I sat beside her and asked “What happened ma? Why did you scream?” She said pointing at the window on the left side of the room “While I was seeing the birds chirping and playing on that tree, I saw a large head with large hands and feet crawling in the bedroom through the window.” I looked towards the window and said “Ma there is no tree outside that window….” My dad jumped in the conversation and said “Dear you must be dreaming.” I agreed to what my dad said and reassured my mom that there was nothing to be worried about. Then our mind was off that topic and we all went downstairs, completed our breakfast and headed to our daily routine.

I went to school and my dad went to work, while my mom stayed home. But yesterday night she told us that she had some errands to run so she’ll be gone the next afternoon. In the afternoon my dad came home for lunch, he heard something weird in the kitchen. But he was already late to go back to work, so he didn’t pay much attention to that. He grabbed his lunchbox and went away.

When I reached home from school around 4pm, I noticed my mother was not home yet. So I changed my clothes and searched in the kitchen for some snacks. That’s when I heard a loud noise from upstairs, it was like something made from glass had shattered on the marble floor. When I went upstairs it was indeed that. My mom’s favorite vase had fallen down from the side table.  I inspected the room and saw that the window on the left side of the bed was wide open. I thought that when dad will be home I would ask him, if he had left the window open. I then immediately swept of the shattered glasses from the floor thinking that someone would step on them and they might get hurt.

I was not able to do my studies because I kept thinking that who would have knocked down the vase, when no one was even there at the house except me. And some light wind can’t knock down a glass vase! But after some time I got that off my mind.

In the evening my mom came home. She came to my room and greeted me with a huge smile on her face, she looked at me and saw that something was on my mind, she asked me “Is there something you would like to tell me dear?” I got confused for a second but then decided to tell her about the vase. I looked at my mom and asked her “Did you come to the house in the afternoon?” she said she didn’t. So I told her everything about the vase and that the open window. Before I told her everything she was smiling but as soon as I completed my story her jaw dropped and she looked really scared. I said “Ma don’t react to this small incident like that! I am sure there is a valid explanation on how the vase tipped over itself from the table.” When I looked at her it seemed like she was not even listening to what I was saying. She was standing beside my door and was staring outside the window of my room. I took her hand and sat her on my bed and ensured her by saying “Don’t worry we’ll get the same exact vase to put on the side table” she looked at me and said as I noticed her concerned and afraid “I bet it was the person with large head and limbs.” I chuckled when she said “I think it is inside our house.” she got up from my bed, left my room and started searching the whole house in terror.

I wondered that ‘what if the person she was talking about real? What if it is in our house?’ Just when my phone rang, it was my dad! He told me today he would come home around 9pm. As I hanged up the phone I went downstairs in search of mom to tell her that dad will be late tonight.

As I went downstairs I heard my mom’s scream on the terrace. I rushed up, when I saw my mom standing by the  terrace door, embracing the brass handle, while looking at a dark black figure who had a giant head and giant limbs, who kind of looked like a giant gingerbread cookie was standing by our nursery of flowers. I couldn’t believe my eyes, as I slowly went up to my mom I asked her in a scarily voice “Mom is that the figure you were describing to us this morning?” she turned to me and said “We need to go NOW!”. I was very confused but then I noticed a tree in the area where my parent’s bedroom’s left window is. That tree had some weirdly shaped leaves also of many different sizes and shapes. I was not able to make out which tree it was but I had seen something like that for the first time. I was amused and very confused.

In my mind all I was thinking was that how is this even possible. While I rushed through the house I went towards the gate trying to get out of the house with my mom, but suddenly I felt a strong pull on my arm. It was my mom, she told me to stop and call dad. I dialed the phone but his network was not reachable. My mom told me to call Aunt Marcy. As I did so she held me and told me to sit down. Aunt Marcy picked the call so I gave mom the phone, I was trying to listen as they conversed. My mom said “Come and pick us up now”, I didn’t hear what aunt said but then mom hanged up the phone and told me to try to call dad again. He was not picking up the phone. As things went forward I was more and more terrified. My mom told me to calm down a little.

But how would I even think about calming myself down after seeing such a terrifying figure. My mom held me near her and hugged me tight. She brushed my black shiny hair with her soft and gentle hands and said “Think about this as a mysterious dream, it will be over soon”…..
